It is important to remember that many of us facing this journey don’t have spouses, caregivers, friends, or even a neighbor to help with daily tasks—especially when those tasks are medically essential, like applying Optune. I often get asked if I have ever done it by myself, and the truth is, no, I have not (until today). My amazing husband has always done it for me, and honestly, he is way better at it than I am.
However, I have been asked whether I could try doing it on my own and share the experience, so that’s exactly what I am doing.
First things first: my skin prep. I start by shaving my head, then I take a shower and wash with antibacterial soap. Afterward, I use 70% alcohol generously (avoiding the eyes, of course). Once my scalp is clean and dry, I apply a small amount of Neosporin Cream + Pain Relief. I stick with the cream because the ointment makes it hard for the Optune arrays to adhere properly.
I created this video to document my first solo attempt. While I did a few retakes on some steps, the whole process took under an hour. It would have been much easier with more than one mirror! Also, tape is your best friend when using Optune—use it generously.
