Let's delve into the world of marijuana. Growing up in Arcata, CA, which some call the Emerald Triangle due to its three counties—Humboldt, Trinity, and Mendocino—I've been immersed in its rich cannabis culture. In the late 1960s, Arcata became a hub for the "back-to-the-land" movement, where young people, mostly hippies, sought to reconnect with nature by living off the land and cultivating some of the finest cannabis strains in the country.
Personally, while I have never been drawn to recreational marijuana use, I am increasingly intrigued by its potential in alternative medicine. Recently, I have been delving into research on cannabis as a potential supplement. However, it's crucial to note that the FDA has only approved one cannabis-derived product, Epidiolex, for the treatment of specific epilepsy conditions.
Studies on the efficacy of CBD (cannabidiol), a compound found in cannabis, for cancer treatment have yielded mixed results. While some studies in mice and lab-grown human cells have shown promising effects of CBD on inhibiting tumor growth, there's a lack of large-scale studies involving human subjects.
One study found that inhaling CBD not only limited tumor growth but also influenced the tumor microenvironment (TME) by suppressing certain proteins and immune checkpoints associated with cancer progression. These findings suggest a potential therapeutic role for inhaled CBD in treating glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer.
