As someone who is fighting cancer, I have tried various forms of therapy to find comfort and relief. My journey began with an article I read about the history of massage therapy. I discovered the idea that our bodies strive for balance, and any deviation from this balance can cause illness or discomfort to be very relatable.
Massage is an ancient practice that originated around 5,000 years ago in Hindu culture as Ayurveda. Its philosophy is based on bringing harmony within the body and its surroundings. I was drawn to this concept because I have Glioblastoma, a type of cancer that thrives in an imbalanced environment due to mutated genes. The idea of restoring balance through massage resonated with me. I started using essential oils along with massage on a weekly basis, and I noticed a significant improvement in my overall well-being and sense of balance. It is incredible how something as simple as massage can make a big difference in how you feel!
I delved into exploring alternative therapies and stumbled upon acupuncture, an ancient practice that predates massage by several millennia. This therapy originated in China and has been praised for its ability to address many ailments. My first experience with acupuncture left me feeling grounded and alert, with a noticeable reduction in nausea, a common side effect of cancer treatment. It is fascinating to note that recent studies have provided credible evidence of acupuncture's effectiveness in treating various conditions, such as nausea, dental pain, back pain, and headaches.
Looking back at my experiences, I found that while acupuncture can be helpful, I personally prefer massage therapy because of the way it gently restores balance and helps relieve discomfort. Every person's experience with cancer is different and trying out complementary therapies can offer a lot of support while navigating the challenges of treatment.
As I continue this path toward healing, I am grateful for the opportunity to embrace holistic approaches that nurture my body, mind, and spirit. Whether through massage, acupuncture, or a combination of modalities, the quest for balance remains at the heart of my journey toward wellness.
