Can you believe it's almost been five months since I got diagnosed with Glioblastoma? Time really does fly when life throws you a curveball. I have been marking my journey since that Thanksgiving when everything changed, and I found myself at the San Juan Cancer Facility in Carmichael. Since then, it has been a rollercoaster of milestones. Graduating from radiation and the first round of chemo felt like a huge accomplishment. And let me tell you, I have completely overhauled my lifestyle—no more alcohol, sugar, or non-organic foods (except for those occasional Disneyland indulgences). I have stocked up on all sorts of natural supplements like Reishi, Shiitake, Maitake, Turkey Tail mushrooms, chaga, and Manuka Honey. I have taken a more holistic approach to my daily routine, saying goodbye to synthetic products. Regular massages have become a staple to keep my blood flowing, and I am trying to incorporate exercise whenever possible.
These positive changes have made a significant impact. My test results have been good, and I have only gotten sick a couple of times. I have been writing a lot and spending time with my family. I am working more from home now and trying to find a better balance between work and caring for myself (I love to work and am not sure how long I can do it for). My job has been supportive, which means a lot to me. My husband has been amazing, shaving my head for the Optune treatment and being there for me whenever I need him. My family and in-laws have supported me, as well as old friends and people on social media.
My first scan came back clean, although, with brain tumors, even a "clean" scan still shows some tumor. Mine hasn't grown, though, which is good news. I am on the second cycle of treatment now, with the highest dose of medication (400mg TMZ) I will get. It will taper off over the next few months. The next big step is getting my Optune Device, which is happening on April 20th. I'm nervous about it, but I have a great support system. Thanks to everyone for their support, and I'll keep you updated. The donations have helped tremendously; I do not know what I would have done without them. Optune is a costly choice even with amazing medical coverage, being four thousand out of pocket, and trying to have a positive quality of life.
