I learn so much from my husband, and I am sure he learns from me too. I am more of a researcher by nature, though it is not entirely fair to say, as he also does his own research in his unique way. We each have our own approach to finding and assimilating information. This brings me to the topic I want to write about. During our incredible trip to Disneyland and D23, we had some of the best conversations—especially while traveling together. There is something about going to Disneyland that sparks even deeper discussions. On this trip, we started talking about the hidden meanings behind our visit and the "synchronicities" we discovered along the way. So, what are synchronicities, you might ask?
Synchronicities can be summed up in three key points: They are events connected not by strict cause-and-effect, but by meaningful coincidence. A synchronicity occurs when an external event mirrors an internal one. Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist, psychotherapist, and the founder of analytical psychology, believed that synchronicities reflect deep psychological processes and carry messages much like dreams do. So, how did our trip evolve into an experience filled with synchronicities?
To best explain how our trip evolved into an experience filled with synchronicities, it is probably best to provide an example. We have all had those "aha" moments in life—those sudden bursts of insight. On this trip, we had many of those moments, but instead of them being just internal, we would stop and look at each other, recognizing the significance together.
At the D23 conference, we listened to Jamie Lee Curtis speak about her experience filming Freaky Friday. She explained how the film was much more than just a comedy; it offered a unique perspective on how empathy and understanding can grow, even between a feuding teen and parent. She emphasized the importance of seeing things from others’ perspectives.
In that same conference, we also listened to Mark Henn and Frank Oz, both highly talented and renowned for their contributions to Disney. They spoke about the importance of being your authentic self, living in the now, and doing what is right for you.
The speakers sparked a synchronicity in both my husband and me, affirming that we were meant to be at this conference for a specific reason: to start truly listening—to ourselves, to our bodies' needs, to each other, and to deepen our understanding not just of ourselves, but of the world around us. Life is too short, and it demands that we gain perspective not only from within but also from our spouses, from those around us—every acquaintance, every experience.
These synchronicities are not mere coincidences. I am becoming more convinced every day that nothing is random; everything has a purpose.
